Time restarts again

TIME branded computers are set to reappear, with Time UK Factory Ltd due to begin trading next month.
Previously, Time Computers not only sold TIME systems by mail order - often through full page advertisements in the national press - but also later through a chain of high street shops. However, while its machines offered high specs and low prices, it often performed badly in customer satisfaction surveys, which in part led to its eventual demise.
The new company will offer PCs and flat screens via telephone and online, concentrating on building high specced machines at a low price.
It will also be based in the same premises as the old Time Computers - the owners having bought the old factory from the administrators.
Although the rebirth of the TIME brand will be welcome news to Burnley and the workforce, it may leave a sour taste in the mouth of many who bought goods from Time Computers who did not receive the machines or later found that their warranties were worthless.
Particularly disturbing were the revelations in August - after the liquidation of the holding company Granville Technology, which owned the brand - of poor financial record keeping, and the running up of debts to the tune of £2m a month from the start of 2005.
