Linux builder eyes Apple .Mac site 12:57PM, Wednesday 18th January 2006
The makers of Ubuntu Linux are planning to develop an equivalent to Apple's .Mac service.

Ubuntu.Mac - a name which Apple's lawyers are unlikely to allow to stand - aims to provide a number of online tools and services including webmail, calendars, an address book, a news reader, content management, blogging, file storage and groups. In fact much of what .Mac subscribers get.

The developers envisage using open standards including IMAP email, CalDAV for calendars and LDAP address books to provide desktop access. Synchronisation is also planned.
