Posted on 10 Jan 2006 at 11:49

Asus is looking to gain a lead in the Napa notebook design stakes by taking inspiration from the Lamborghini, the Italian sports car marque.

The Lamborghini Notebook Series will, the company boldly declares, feature design details and a special mirror painting finish that exude 'power, speed, strength and beauty'. For example, the shell of the new Core Duo technology-based notebook is intended to resemble the shape of a Lamborghini bonnet.

'With unique mobile technology from Asus and Lamborghini's cutting-edge industrial designs, the all-new notebooks provide a breath of fresh air to the boring looks of existing portable PCs,' said Tony Chen, Director of ASUS Notebook Business.

'The new ASUS Lamborghini Notebook Series, a fusion of the best from both companies, will surely provide a different mobile computing experience,' he added.

With the notebooks only just being sampled, availability is scheduled for the spring and the final spec has not been declared. One detail Asus could confirm, however, is that the series will be available in Yellow and Black. We await more details with interest.

Acer - a Taiwanese rival of Asus - has already embarked on a similar course with its Ferrari tie-in notebook. For example, the Ferrari 3400, its premium notebook with a grey and 'Ferrari red' chassis, based on the AMD 64-bit, low-power processor, the 3000+ Mobile Athlon 64.
