Asus strikes UK shores with LCD panels 3:53PM, Thursday 24th November 2005
Asus is entering the UK LCD monitor market with four new 17in models.

To make its mark in what is already a crowded space, the company is offering a 1 year 'ZBD' (Zero Bright Dot) returns policy. What this means is that if a single defective pixel is found on the panel within one year, a replacement will be issued.

'It's a strong statement, especially when you consider all of our competitors are offering only 1-3 months ZBD policy', said Asus UK Product Manager for LCDs, Hiten Desai.

models are: MM17D (£153 ex VAT), MM17T (£164 ex VAT), PM17TE (£182 ex VAT, available before end of November) and PM17TU (£199 ex VAT). All of them, except the entry-level MM17D, have built-in speakers. All models have a response time of 8ms, except the high-end PM17TU, which has a response time of just 3ms.

All have a resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 and a 600:1 contrast ratio, but while those in the MM series have horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 130 and 150 and a brightness of 400cd/m, the PM series have horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 140 and 130 and a brightness of 500cd/m.

The company also includes a 3-year collect-and-return warranty for the monitors, featuring Asus' proprietary 'Splendid Technology', which it claims improves picture and colour quality according to screen output. A DVI cable and D-Sub cable are bundled in the package.
