Research shows iTunes bosses half the digital download market 10:39AM, Monday 21st November 2005
New research into the UK downloads market has put iTunes's share at a mere 54 per cent.

The figure was supplied by Xtn Data which surveyed 1,000 UK online and high street music buyers and differs markedly from the 80 per cent share which the Official Charts Company attributed to Apple a couple of months ago.

iTunes' nearest rival, Napster, has 10 per cent of the market according to Xtn, followed by Wippit, MyCoke Music and MSN. High profile entrants into the downloads mêlée, such as Virgin, HMV and Tesco, have so far failed to make much of an impact.
