Sony synchs for the PSP

Sony has released synchronisation software for the PlayStationPortable that makes transferring audio, image and video files to the device easier.

Transferring video to the PSP with such an aid is no mean feat, requiring a specifically named folder in a specific location just to start with.

But Sony's PSP Media Manager software should help make this trivial. It can re-encode video, audio and images to compatible formats, allows different bit-rate configuration and even handholds you through signing up to video blogs, specially formatted PSP magazines, and podcasts.

The drag and drop interface includes thumbnails of files to be transferred, and a scan of your PC will bring up a list of media files available for transfer.

It also enables easy backups of saved game data on the PC, even to a Memory Stick.

Dave Chaimson, vice president of marketing, Sony Media Software, said 'Whether your source is 16:9 high definition video footage, a collection of photos from your latest vacation, or a PSP formatted publication, this new technology lets you view and share it anywhere.'

The software is available for immediate download from the Sony website for $19.95 and will be made available soon as a boxed product with a 6-foot USB cable for $29.95.
