Mandriva brings Centrino into the Linux fold 5:24PM, Thursday 13th October 2005
Mandriva has launched the 2006 version of its Linux platform, claiming the 'only' Linux distro to offer official support for Intel's Centrino platform.

It includes the Kat desktop search utility that searches both filenames and file contents and an interactive firewall that feeds live information on attempts to access the system. Rather than fixed rules, the firewall can adjust the level of protection depending on the status of computer.

Other applications include Skype for Internet voice calls, the GIMP for image editing, the OpenOffice productivity suite, the Firefox browser, Kopete chat utility, Kontact email management and Amarok for management of all your music files.

The 2006 edition is available in Discovery/Lx, PowerPack, and PowerPack+ editions and includes both 32bit and 64bit versions.

They are available for preorder on the Mandriva store.
