Dell targets the iPod shuffle 5:52PM, Wednesday 21st September 2005
Dell has squeezed its DJ range of portable music players to produce the itty-bitty DJ Ditty.

With 512MB of storage - that's about 220 WMA tracks, according to Dell - and a 1 x 0.4 inch LCD screen, the device measures 3.6 x 1.1 x .5 inches and weighs 1.29 ounces. There's also an integrated FM radio.

Dell claims the rechargeable lithium polymer battery can provide up to 14 hours of continuous play.

That spec puts it up against the entry-level iPod shuffle, the 512MB model priced at $99. Of course, the crucial difference is the music service tie-in. Whereas the iPod is locked into iTunes - for better or worse - Dell's offering will work with WMA-based services from the likes of Yahoo! and Napster

The alliterative Dell DJ Ditty is priced, for the States, at $99. A spokesperson for Dell said there were no precise plans yet for a UK launch.
