Foo Fighters record the most swapped track of the week
11:15AM, Thursday 11th August 2005
Having defended their decision to copy-protect the latest Foo Fighters album, executives at Sony BMG and its subsidiary RCA must be smarting at the news that the track Best Of You has topped a chart of the most swapped track in the past week.
According to Big Champagne, an online media measurement company, the song was the most swapped 'rock active' track and the number two 'rock modern' track. It was also number seven overall.
Sony said last week that sales of the Foo Fighters album, In Your Honor, had not been affected by customer complaints about the copy protection and enjoyed their best ever week. However it would seen that the DRM technology has not had much effect on unauthorised file sharing.
Nonetheless Sony BMG is undeterred. Executive Thomas Hesse said at a digital music conference that the company plans to place copy-protection on all its US releases by early 2006.
