Samsung and LG dominate spotlight at IMID'05 12:03PM, Thursday 21st July 2005
Samsung Group and LG Group are introducing a variety of display products and technologies at the International Meeting on Information Display and Exhibition (IMID'05) (July 19-23) in South Korea.

Samsung Electronics is highlighting the world's largest LCD TV (82-inch) module and active-matrix (AM) OLED (organic light-emitting diode) 40-inch TV panel. The 82-inch TV module features a 180-degree viewing angle and 92 per cent colour saturation, according to DisplayBank, one of the co-organizers of the event.

The company is also exhibiting a prototype 1.15-inch double-sided OLED display for mobile phone-use; the display has an 'always on' indicator window and a main window that can black out to save power, according to South Korea-based Korea Times.

of the company is its development in LED backlighting, and it is highlighting a 46-inch LED backlight module as well as other LCD TV panels using LED backlighting.

Samsung SDI, another affiliated company of the group, is showing OLED and PDP (plasma display panel) displays, including a 102-inch PDP module that it introduced last December.

LG Group is vying for the spotlight by presenting various display products, with LG Electronics (LGE) displaying a 60-inch full high-definition (HD) PDP TV module and a 50-inch PDP TV module that uses single-scan technology. The technology helps reduce costs 20 per cent from using traditional double-scan technology, DisplayBank said.

LG.Philips LCD is showing 37- to 55-inch LCD TV modules that support HDTV signals, while the company is also introducing an LED backlight module that supports a 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

LG.Philips Display is highlighting slim CRTs with sizes ranging from 17- to 32-inch, according to DisplayBank and Korea Times.

A total of 145 companies are pushing their products at the event, with most other participants focusing on LCD equipment and materials, DisplayBank said.
