Linux company Mandrake remade as Mandriva 1:34PM, Monday 11th April 2005
French Linux company Mandrake has changed its name following its acquisition of Conectiva - neatly side-stepping an ongoing trademark dispute.

The company's new name is Mandriva, and its product line and web addresses have all been changed to reflect this. Its logo remains the same shooting star motif.

The name change also resolves a trademark dispute that had been contested for some time between Hearst Corporation over the name Mandrakesoft.

The acquisition of South American Linux distributor Conectiva was announced in February: a straight stock swap that resulted in the company being worth about 4.5 per cent of Mandriva - about €1.8mn.

As we reported in February, Mandriva's intentions are to merge its respective product lines, including support and training services.
