Google News gets customised

Posted on 11 Mar 2005 at 10:43

Google has updated its popular Google News section. Users can now customise the page by rearranging the sections, deleting or adding new sections or adding their own customised section.

Google News is an aggregate of some 4,500 different news sources from around the world, including PC Pro, updated regularly. The stories are divided into separate sections, World, Sports, Entertainment, Sci/Tech etc.

The new feature allows the user to customise the home page. User defined changes can include altering the order of the sections, add or delete the main section such as Business or Sports and change the number of headlines displayed. It is also possible to add country specific news - say UK Sports - from 22 countries around the world.

You can add your own section simply by adding keywords to a box. The new section based on the keywords then appears alongside the standard boxes immediately. Any changes are reflected in the menu bar on the left hand side of the page.

By selecting one of the options at the top right hand side of the page, you can either display 'customised', 'standard' or 'text only' news.

All the information is stored in a cookie, so you will need to have them enabled in order for it to work.
