Sony describes its SRX-R110 high-end projector as 'the world's first 4K resolution projector' (4096 x 2160).

Based on its own SXRD (Silicon Crystal Reflective Display) panel technology, the projector is designed for scenarios requiring 'ultra-high resolution' and wide colour gamut projectors, for example digital cinema, post-production and stage events.

Meeting the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) System Specification standards, it provides a contrast ratio of 2000:1 and a brightness of 10,000 ANSI lumens. Weighing 95 kg, its dimensions are 740 x 430 x 1100 mm (w x h x d).

The SRX-R110 has four input slots - it can either have an HD-SDI input card fitted or an analogue input card fitted covering XGA to UXGA sources (four such HD-SDI cards are used to display true 4K originated material). For D-Cinema applications, an optional 'media-block' security function enables projection of content according to the DCI compression and encryption standard.

'SXRD panel technology creates a new standard for projectors, producing smooth, film-like picture,' said Richard Lewis, Chief Engineer Marketing at Sony Professional Solutions Europe. 'Sony is committed to leading the market in HD technology, with a range of products and solutions that represent the next generation of image reproduction.'

Available in Europe from April, UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.
