Yahoo! baby revealed as hoax 5:10PM, Tuesday 25th January 2005
An off-beat news story that did the rounds recently was a Romanian couple naming their child 'Yahoo!' to express their joy at having first met over the Internet.

It would have been a good story, if it was true. Reuters now reports that the story was fictitious and the reporter responsible - working for a Romanian tabloid - has been fired.

'It was the reporter's child's birth certificate, which he modified,' the news agency quotes the Libertatea's deputy editor-in-chief, Simona Ionescu. 'We fired him.'

Surely the name itself was a giveaway - Google would have been a more suitable name for a baby? It brings to mind the e-baby delivered by a children's charity a few years ago - Barnardo's launches e-baby. Have your say, by leaving a comment via the link below.
