Sony stamps out DVD errors with AccuCORE

Posted on 14 Jan 2005 at 11:56

AccuCORE. You shall know it by the purple key logo. Sony is trumpeting its new DVD media, which it claims it will improve the accuracy of reading and writing from DVD discs and improve overall reliability at high speeds.

'The rapid spread of DVD recorders in recent years has meant a swiftly expanding demand for DVD media,' said Didier Fournier, Sony's European Marketing Manager for Optical Storage Media. 'The introduction of AccuCORE provides end users with advanced DVD technology on the market. We believe it will become synonymous with quality assurance - and as a result become the DVD media of choice.'

Details supplied by Sony about AccuCORE include: fast addressing (for DVD-R) involves a 'high-precision nanotechnology stamper', which reportedly allows an address to be immediately detected with accuracy, even at high speed; a special recording dye (for DVD-R, DVD+R), which is designed to stabilise recording and playback; improved support for long-term archiving (for DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW)); and (for DVD-R, DVD+R) the implementation of an advanced moulding and bonding technology to guarantee a 'flat' disc to help reduce vibrations and increase stability.

Sony products featuring AccuCORE technology - such as the 16x DVD Recordable discs, which should be shipping now - will carry the key shape purple AccuCORE logo.
