Google pushes Mini appliance to SMEs

Posted on 13 Jan 2005 at 11:39

Search engine Google has extended the range of its search appliance offerings in the US with the introduction of the Google Mini. Aimed at small to medium-sized companies and public institutions such as local government and colleges, the Mini can index and search up to 50,000 documents and costs $4,995.

The search appliances are Google-in-a-box. The units are complete PCs with operating systems and the Google search software built in which can be used as a search tool by organisations either internally or externally. The devices can index a large range of documents including HTML, text and PDF files. Google says that the Mini will be offered in the UK eventually but no date has been set yet.
