Seagate has increased its options for digital storage: its seven-centimetre wide 5GB pocket hard drive is being made available in the UK, and it has released a 100GB USB 2 Portable External Hard Drive.

Described as being 'palm-sized' and weighing 63 grams, the 5GB pocket hard drive is priced at £139 and the 2.5GB version will sell for around £119 (both prices include VAT and a two-year warranty).

Seagate states that the pocket drive serves as a cost-effective alternative to a USB thumb drive. A retractable USB 2.0 cable rolls into the shell and allows plug-and-play functionality.

Other features include, rubberised feet for stable placement, a shock protection system for its components, and an LED lights up blue when the drive is reading or writing.

Weighing 292 grams, the USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive can store 100GB of data, which Seagate claims is the highest capacity of any hard drive in its small-footprint class.

Designed for travel, the aluminium alloy 100GB model includes 8MB of cache and CMS BounceBack Express backup software. It comes with Seagate's Fluid Dynamic Bearing motor and QuietStep technology, which is designed for quiet operation.

It costs £219 including VAT. A 40GB model is also available, priced at £129 including VAT. It has 2MB of cache and does not include the back-up software.
