BT appoints new head of Retail division 10:36AM, Friday 10th December 2004
Telco BT has announced that Ian Livingston has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of BT Retail. He replaces the outgoing CEO Pierre Danon who is leaving in February to join Cap Gemini.

Livingston was previously Chief Financial Officer for BT Wholesale and prior to that was Financial Director at Dixons plc where he was heavily involved in the launch of Freeserve.

BT Retail is the most customer facing of BT's three main divisions. It not only encompasses the domestic and business telephone services, but also handles new businesses such as the broadband ISP BT Openworld.

The outgoing CEO Danon made great strides in making the division more responsive to customers whilst driving down costs. The challenge for Livingston will be to position BT Retail to maintain market share and grow new businesses in the face of challenges from Ofcom that BT should reorganise its Wholesale business to treat BT Retail and its competitors equally, as well as face new competition in its core business as local loop unbundling gathers pace.
