IT Forum 2004: Roundup

A number of companies have used the IT Forum to unveil back office and server-related products: Quest Software, Compuware, Zantaz, Office Add-On and Vintela.

Reaching out to Unix
Quest Software has announced availability of its InTrust Connector for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, which extends the monitoring reach of MOM out to UNIX servers. The Quest connector provides two-way synching of event notifications between Quest's InTrust event data manager and MOM.

Simulation and security
Technology previews of two new DevPartner Studio products have been demonstrated at IT Forum 2004: Fault Simulator and SecurityChecker. The first, as the name suggests, is designed to help development teams emulate real world application and environment errors and enable consistent debugging of an application's reaction to faults. SecurityChecker provides a security vulnerability analysis for ASP.Net applications.

Zantaz, a specialist in risk management systems, has announced the availability of Exchange Archive Solution (EAS) 4.0 in Europe. For safe-guarding mission-critical information, three new applications - File Archive Solution (FAS), EAS Supervisor and EAS Pre-Review - provide improved email and file archiving support.

Microsoft management on Linux and Mac OS
Finally, Microsoft and Vintela have announced a number of mutual licensing agreements, and Microsoft is also making a 'minority investment' in Vintela. The significance of this? Vintela integrates cross-platform systems, specifically enabling Microsoft management tools to work with Unix, Linux and Mac OS. Where this may lead in the future, we will have to wait and see...
