Sales of Nokia smartphones based on Symbian S60 will reach 20 million units by year-end, doubling the company's numbers in 2003, Vanjoki said. In addition to Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Siemens Mobile, Panasonic Mobile Communications, LG Electronics and Lenovo have all begun Symbian S60-based smartphone development, Vanjoki stated.
Nokia plans to roll out more than 20 phones equipped with megapixel cameras next year, according to Vanjoki. The company showcased two such yesterday, the 7710 and 3230. The 7710 phone will be launched later this quarter in China and Asia, with a price tag of €450-500 (about $576-$640). The 3230 model will first be available in the European and Asian markets during the first quarter of 2005, with a price tag of €350 (about $448).
Vanjoki sees strong growth potential in the camera-phone market and estimates that more than 200 million camera phones will be sold this year.
The 6020 phone, also highlighted at the conference, targets the middle-range market. The model is priced at around €200 (about $256) and will be launched in the first quarter of next year.
Nokia's upcoming mobile phones will offer basic specifications, including 262,144-color displays and built-in megapixel cameras, Vanjoki further indicated. The vendor also plans to launch models with a resolution of 352×416, said Vanjoki.
