For that you get 2GB of downstream traffic per month, enough for between three and six hours of surfing per day, so long as you do not start downloading quantities of large files. The price rises to £22.99 for a 6GB limit and £27.99 for 30GB.
As many Internet users' traffic rarely exceeds 1GB and 95 per cent download less than 5GB, these prices are bringing 1Mbps services within reach of the majority of Web users. Previously the relatively high price of faster connections restricted their appeal to the busiest surfers.
Wanadoo, formerly Freeserve, is also introducing its own wireless modem/router. The £79.99 LiveBox provides 54Mbps 802.11g wireless and includes one USB client adapter. The box only works with Wanadoo's broadband services and will be a key part of the ISPs future plans for VoIP and video-on-demand services.
