Based on the Symbian OS, the clamshell-designed digital camera-touting phone supports video, the use of miniSD cards and can natively view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The tri-band phone supports GPRS and also has Bluetooth and MMS (multimedia messaging service) capabilities.
By using a miniSD adapter you can also link to other Panasonic audio visual equipment, should you really feel the need - the phone is strongly aimed at the business user.
'Panasonic's expertise in the miniaturisation of consumer electronics has resulted in driving down the size and weight of the Symbian OS smartphone,' said Morgan Gillis, Executive VP of Sales at Symbian.
European shipments of the X700 are scheduled to begin Autumn 2004.
