The unveiling also demonstrates Intel's ambitions to cash in on the increasing demand for mobility and entertainment functionality in today's consumer electronics products, the sources said.
The three models include a 12-inch model designed for 'on-the-go' road warriors, a 15.4-inch model for virtual offices and a 17-inch one designed as a Mobile Entertainment PC.
The 17-inch model looks like an LCD TV and features Intel High Definition Audio, code-named Azalia, for high-quality sound.
Each notebook features EMA (Extended Mobile Access) functionality co-developed by Taiwan's Insyde Software, fingerprint authentication and a second LCD display built into the notebook chassis that enables closed-lid instant access to e-mail and other information.
According to Anand Chandrasekher, Intel VP and general manager of the company's mobile platforms group, Lenovo, the new registered trade name of China-based Legend, has come out with a prototype 15.4-inch EMA-capable 'Vela' laptop.
With the exception of EMA technology, it is not clear at this stage if Taiwanese notebook makers will be involved in the development of the two other new-concept mobile PCs.
