The official launch date of Intel's next-generation desktop 'Prescott' processor is Monday, the 2nd of February according to X-bit labs.
The Website quotes sources close to Intel and predicts the launch of seven desktop processors. These include a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor and four Prescotts, running at 3.40GHz, 3.20GHz, 3.00GHz and 2.80GHz with 1MB of Level 2 cache.
Pricing for the 3.4GHz P4 EE is quoted as $999, and the Prescott processors will be priced at $417, $278, $218, $178.
Intel would not confirm the details of the Xbit story, but a spokesperson maintained the company was on course for shipping Prescott processors before the end of the year (as announced at the IDF in September, where Intel demoed PCI Express x16 graphics on a Prescott machine ). The spokesperson drew a distinction between the official launch-date and the shipping of processors before the event.
