Microsoft settles in Nashville

Microsoft has settled with another US state over the violation of anti-trust laws. Agreement has now been reached with the southern state of Tennessee.

Microsoft's settlement follows the model of previous states, such as North Carolina and South Dakota. The company has agreed to make compensatory vouchers available - for the purchase of hardware or software from any manufacturer - with the value of any unclaimed vouchers being distributed evenly: half towards funding IT in state schools, and half back to Microsoft.

On this occasion, the settlement is for a maximum of $64m.

Preliminary approval for the settlement was granted on Friday, by a Nashville Circuit Court. It means any Tennessean that bought Microsoft software (between 21 December 1995 and 31 December 2002) will be eligible to apply for the compensatory vouchers.
