Nvidia has added the Go5700 to its GeForce FX Go series. These are graphics processing units (GPUs) designed for notebook use.

The Go5700 features improved rendering for 3D graphics, support for HDTV (High Definition Television) and PowerMizer 4.0, which is Nvidia's system for optimising battery usage.

'Today's content demands cinematic graphic capabilities and increasingly requires state-of-the-art GPUs that deliver the most immersive gaming and video experience,' said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of Nvidia. 'The GeForce FX Go5700 delivers the industry's most advanced cinematic graphics capabilities and Nvidia's worldwide reputation of compatibility, stability, and reliability that is an absolute requirement for today's rich applications and games.'

Although the GeForce FX Go5700 has begun shipping to OEMs worldwide, production quantities should be available in December. This means we can expect to see systems based on the GPU early next year.

Companies that will be using the new GPU include Toshiba, Alienware, Compal, and Quanta (which manufactures notebooks for Apple, amongst others).

'When Nvidia introduced the original GeForce FX Go series just over six months ago,' said Jeff Fisher, executive VP of worldwide sales at Nvidia, 'notebook manufacturers responded by creating truly innovative products ranging from media centre machines with beautiful 17-inch displays, to the first true gaming notebook.'
