Toshiba is doubling production of its 40GB 1.8in hard disk drives following successful appearances in Apple's iPod and LaCie storage devices.
The company is now offering the device to all OEMs and production will reach 600,000 units a month by March of next year, having produced 3 million such drives to date. Toshiba is also expanding its outsourcing agreements to support this. It predicts there will be some 25 million devices sporting the 1.8 drives by 2006.
The roadmap for drives is to decrease the scale still further, with 0.8in drives in production for 2005.
