SCO to offer way out of Linux

SCO's next prong of attack is to persuade companies out of using Linux.

SCO's SEC filing relating to the $50mn investment in SCO convertible stock details the company's future plans, which include introducing incentives for 'switching back to Unix'.

'We will help them migrate to another operating system with a stronger IP foundation,' we were told.

However, 'another operating system' might not exclusively relate to Unix. The SEC filing reads: 'Over the past several months, SCO has had discussions with several major companies for the purpose of bolstering SCO's... migration initiative,' - which may encompass more than one operating system. SCO did not expand on this.

The company describes its Migration Initiative as a 'response to customers'. More information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, we were told.

In other news, another SCO SEC filing has unearthed the fact that the company's law firm stands to cream off 20 per cent of monies arising out of legal settlements - capped at $1mn and 400,000 shares of SCO common stock.

While the legal firm in question wasn't named in the filing, Boies Schiller and Flexner were appointed to represent the company in its ongoing litigation with IBM.
