HP updates entry-level LaserJet range

Posted on 7 Nov 2003 at 16:21

HP has announced what it describes as its 'smallest and most affordable monochrome printer ever' - the entry-level LaserJet 1010, aimed at home users and small businesses.

Additionally, accompanying the 1010, HP has announced LaserJet 1012 and 1015 printers, which have slightly faster print speeds and additional memory. The 1015 is also Mac compatible.

The LaserJet 1010 and 1012 work with Windows ME, 200 and XP, while the LaserJet 1015 also works with Mac OS 9.1 and higher and Mac OS X 10.1 and higher.

According to HP, the new 1010 is 50 per cent smaller and 30 per cent lighter than its predecessors, the HP LaserJet 1000w and 1005w. Its print spec is as follows. With a first page out within 10 seconds, HP claims a print rate of 12 pages per minute, and the 600 dots per inch printer comes with 8MB of RAM. It works of a USB connection.

The 1015, by contrast, has a print rate of 14 ppm, 16MB RAM and pints images of 1200 dpi.

'Small businesses are printing more documents in the office than ever before, and customers demand high performance and reliable monochrome office printers', says Stuart Swinton, HP's Monochrome LaserJet products category manager. 'The new HP LaserJet 1010 series can give them the flexibility they require, and help them create high quality, professional looking documents at a price they can afford.'

The pricing for the LaserJet 1010, 1012 and 1015 is £129, £169 and £199 respectively (all including VAT).

Note, however that the 1010's print cartridge (the Q2612A) is almost half the cost of the printer - £64.49 inc VAT.

More info on the new printers can be found at the HP website.
