Reports of its death are greatly exaggerated - Intel is still pushing the Celeron envelope.

The chip giant has announced a new version of its Celeron value processor - ramping the clock up further. The new model operates at a frequency of 2.8GHz.

Built using 0.13-micron process technology, the chip uses 478-pin packaging and has 128KB of L2 Cache and a 400 MHz system bus (note that the top range P4 features an 800MHz bus and 512KB of L2 Cache). More info on the Celeron can be found on the Intel website.

As for pricing, the 2.8GHz model is priced at $117, based on 1,000 unit direct orders.
