Described by NEC as an 'affordable performance notebook', the Versa C160 costs from £699 and runs on a Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor (2000+ or 2200+). It has a 15in XGA display.
Aimed at the SoHo and education markets, other elements of the spec include 256MB of DDR SDRAM (expandable to 768MB), a 30Gb hard drive, a DVD-ROM or Combo DVD/CD-RW for the optical drive
In terms of weight and size, it weighs 2.9kg and measures 330 x 268 x 36.7mm, which is only slightly heavier than NEC's recent M500 Centrino machine. NEC claims a battery life of 2.5 hours from the 8-Cell Li-Ion Battery (4000mAh).
Installed software comprises Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Works and Outlook Express, and Norton Antivirus 2003.
