More than half of London schools now connected to broadband 10:37AM, Monday 27th October 2003
The London Grid for Learning (LGfL) has announced that 53 per cent of all London's schools which totals 1,386 sites and an estimated 750,000 pupils are now connected to broadband. This puts it on track to have all London's schools on broadband by 2005, a year ahead of the government target.

A year ago only 20 per cent of London Schools were connected.

As well as connecting through the school, teachers and pupils can also connect from home to the LGfL Online portal which offers educational materials, an email address and 25MB of web space. The consortium says that so far some 420,000 users have signed up to the service.

The LGfL is a consortium of London Local Education Authorities (LEAs) put together to provide all of the capital's schools with broadband. The technical work has been carried out by Equinox, THUS and BT.
