Intel prunes price of mobile Centrino processing

As anticipated, Intel moved to cut its pricing for Centrino processing over the weekend.

Leading the way, the price for a 1.7GHz Pentium M processor was cut by a third, from $637 to $423. Similarly, the 1.6GHz falls from $423 to $294, a drop of 31 per cent.

Smaller cuts were seen for the 1.5 and 1.4GHz processors, dropping to $241 (18 per cent) and $209 (13 per cent), respectively.

The low-end 1.3GHz processor has now been phased out, and in the wake of these price cuts we can expect the introduction of a new high-end rated Pentium M processor.

Corresponding percentage reductions were also made to the 855 GM and PM Centrino chipsets. The low-voltage and ultra-low voltage versions were only tweaked, however - the 855GM falling in price by one per cent.

As always, all pricing is based on direct sales of 1,000 unit quantities.
