Microsoft has released a new version of its Web-based group collaboration software, Windows SharePoint Services.
The software, which is intended to be part of the Windows Server 2003 family, proves a 'workspace' for groups to access and share information, over and above a traditional file system.
Built on the Microsoft .NET Framework, you can use a browser to manage documents, discussions, lists, and other such group-based info.
Windows Server 2003 users can freely download Windows SharePoint Services, and find out more information, from the Microsoft website.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, which builds on Windows SharePoint Services by providing management tools for SharePoint-based sites and organisation-wide publishing capabilities, will be part of the upcoming Microsoft Office System. This is the new version of Microsoft Office that will be officially launched 21 October.
