IDF Fall 2003: Winners of Innovative PC Awards revealed

The winners of Intel's Innovative Awards have just been announced here at the IDF Fall 2003. Winners include a PC designed to look like an alien's head, very tough notebooks and an icube Play@TV digital media adapter....
Consumer Desktop Category Winner: Alienware Area-51
A gaming machine that looks like an alien's head. Includes a Serial ATA drive, 6.1 channel audio and four front USB ports for connecting multiple gaming peripherals.
Consumer Desktop Category Winner: HP Media Center PC
Watch and record TV shows, pause live TV, create home videos, use a multi-format memory card reader. And there's Notepad, too.
Business Desktop Category Winner: Dell Optiplex SX270
Small form factor PC with hot-swappable media bay and chassis intrusion alert functionality.
Business Desktop Category Winner: HP Compaq d530 Ultra-Slim Desktop
Small footprint with customizable drive configurations.
Business Desktop Category Winner: Lenovo YangTian S6000
Designed for small business users, it includes an integrated battery with enough power to save the system state to the hard disk and power off the PC automatically in the case of power disruption
Full Size Notebook Category Winner: Compaq Presario X1000 Widescreen Notebook
With a 15.4in wide screen and integrates secure digital / multimedia memory card slot for swapping files with multimedia devices
Thin and Light Notebook Category Winner: IBM ThinkPad T40
Supports secure WLAN connectivity using the IBM Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0.
Mini Notebook Category Winner: Sony Vaio PCG-TR1A
An integrated CD-RW/DVD combo drive, and XBRITE 10.6in screen and an integrated swivel camera for video conferencing.
Sub-Notebook Category Winner: Panasonic Toughbook CF-W2
A lightweight, high-specced machine with a shock mounted hard disk drive.

Digital Media Adapter Category Winner: icube Play@TV
Enables the exchange of digital audio, photos and video between home PCs, TVs and stereos.
'The winners of the 2003 awards illustrate how the industry continues to increase the value of the PC to consumers by making them easier to use, designing for specific market segments, and enabling them to connect to other devices, such as stereos and TVs,' said Louis Burns, VP and general manager of Intel's Desktop Platforms Group.
Note that not all these models are currently available in the UK.
