By their logos you shall know them - this is the way of product markteting in the modern, brand-conscious world. And AMD is no different in wanting to highlight the presence of its 64-bit processors...

The company has launched the AMD64 Logo Programme ahead of the unveiling of its Athlon 64 processor. The 64-bit desktop chip will officially appear on 23 September. There's a logo for the Opteron server processor, too.

'The AMD64 Logo Program allows leading software and hardware developers to signify their support for the extraordinary value of simultaneous, native 32- and 64-bit computing on the AMD64 platform,' said Rich Heye, general manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit.

Heye also emphasised the smooth migration path that should be involved with the new processor. 'The AMD64 logo indicates that end users can continue using their software and hardware today and migrate to next-generation technology at their own pace.'

More info on the Logo Programme, including licence and usage guidelines, can be found on the AMD website.
