New Tungsten is sharper and faster 1:02PM, Wednesday 23rd July 2003
Palm has added the Tungsten T2 to its range of PDAs. Like its predecessor, the Tungsten T, it features built-in Bluetooth, but the new model has a much-improved display and more power.

The T2 has the same transflective display used in Palm's Tungsten C and Zire 71 models. The 320x320 pixel screen is Palm's sharpest and its 65,000 colours are readable even in the brightest daylight.

Both Tungstens have the same Texas Instruments OMAP1510 processor, but the T2 doubles the amount of RAM to 32MB, which can be expanded via the SD/MMC card slot.

It also has the very latest version of the Palm operating system, 5.2.1, which includes the new version of the Graffiti handwriting recognition software. Anyone who has used a Palm OS device before will have to take time to adjust as Graffiti 2 is significantly different.

Like the original, the T2 has a bulit-in microphone for voice recording and a stereo headphone socket. The case, however, gets a facelift with light-grey replacing gunmetal.

The device also comes with a broad selection of software including Documents To Go, for reading and editing Microsoft Office files, and MP3 and video players.

The Tungsten T2 costs £329 (inc. VAT).
