NEC ships new 3G handset to 3 in UK 11:01AM, Wednesday 16th July 2003
NEC will supply a new 3G handset model to 3, the 3G mobile phone operator in UK.

The e808Y features two built-in digital cameras, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 65,536 color screen and 16 polyphonic ringtones.

NEC is already shipping the e606 and e808 3G handsets to the 3G carrier, and Motorola supplies its A830 models.

3 services are available in over 2,000 shops in the UK - from 'stores within stores' in Superdrug shops to third-party retailers such as Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and the Dixons Group.

Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa owns 65 per cent of the British carrier, NTT DoCoMo 20 per cent and KPN Mobile 15 per cent. Hutchison has launched 3G services in the UK, Italy and Australia. It is expected to launch a 3G network in Hong Kong in August.

NEC also supplies 3G base station equipment to Hutchison's 3G carriers in UK and Hong Kong.
