4GB DDR memory sticks in volume production

Samsung says its 1Gbit DDR memory is the first to receive Intel endorsement and is already in mass production in DIMMs of up to 4GB in capacity.

The 4GB registered DIMMs will be produced for high-end machines - servers, workstations and so on - but even the humble desktop will see 2GB sticks, of the unbuffered variety, and SODIMMs for notebooks will also be produced to this capacity.

The modules will be clocked at DDR266 and DDR333 speeds. Samsung is hoping that production efficiencies including moving to larger 300mm wafers and manufacturing to the 0.10micron process will help it take a significant share of a market that Gartner Dataquest predicts will be worth some $12.1 billion by 2007.
