Adobe has upgraded and renamed Premiere, its video editing application now tagged Premiere Pro.

The software has been redesigned with powerful, productivity enhancing features and advanced professional tools including sophisticated colour correction, powerful new audio controls and multiple, nested timelines. It has also been optimised for multiple processors and hyper-threading to take advantage of the latest generation of Intel Pentium-based systems running Windows XP.

Premiere Pro is designed to enable users to spend less time rendering and more time editing and to this end includes the ability to customise keyboard shortcuts and workspaces. New pro features include 3-point colour correction, YUV video processing, and an audio mixer with 5.1 surround sound mixing and AC3 export.

The application supports high-definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) footage and can import and export a wide variety of video and audio formats including MPEG2, AVI, WAV and AIFF files. In addition, Adobe Premiere Pro files can be exported in AAF (Advanced Authoring Format), an industry open interchange format, for finishing work in other professional products.

'Premiere Pro sets a new standard for editing digital video on the PC and has been redesigned from the ground up to address the needs of video professionals who work under tight deadlines with even tighter budgets,' said Bryan Lamkin, senior VP of Digital Imaging and Video Products at Adobe. 'Premiere Pro allows our customers to deliver beautiful video projects and is architected to take advantage of new hardware and media-layer advances, as DV innovation continues apace on the PC platform.'

Adobe Premiere Pro costs £499 (ex. VAT); upgrades from previous versions costs £159 (ex. VAT). Further information is available from www.adobe.co.uk/products/premiere.
