BT Openworld and Yahoo team up

By Steve Malone

BT Openworld has announced that it has signed a deal with Yahoo! UK to provide a raft of new services on its connection packages.

The new service to be called BT Yahoo! Broadband and BT Yahoo! Internet, will include the rather wordy names of BT Yahoo! Anytime, BT Yahoo! SurfTime and BT Yahoo! Pay-as-you-go. BT Openworld says the broadband service will launch in September and the dialup service from November.

Under the terms of the deal BT will provide the basic connection services, billing and technical support with Yahoo! UK providing a range of functions on top. Details of what the Yahoo services are going to be are sketchy at the moment although the partners hint at such things as parental controls, anti spam and anti virus filters and personalisation. There are no details as yet as to whether other Yahoo! content such as Personals, Yahoo! Finance or shopping services will be included.

BT Openworld's customers will keep their existing email, login details and domain names. More details, as they say, will be announced in due course.
