Bluetooth and GPS the buzzwords for new AMD flash device

AMD has announced a new 8Mbit, 1.8v flash memory device, the Am29SL800D.

With initial read access times of 90 nanoseconds and 22MB/sec read throughput, AMD asserts that the device combines performance and long battery life within a small package. It is the highest-performing member of its AM29SL Flash memory device family.

Enabling the use of Bluetooth and GPS is what AMD emphasises. 'Consumers are expecting more from portable electronics, including advanced Bluetooth and GPS capabilities, but they're unwilling to accept side effects such as reduced battery life,' said Ian Williams, vice president of customer operations for AMD's Memory Group. 'The Am29SL800D combines the flexibility of a high-performance 8-Megabit device with AMD's low-power design expertise to help designers meet and exceed these demanding expectations.'

You can find more info at the AMD Web site.

The devices are priced at $1.30 based on unit quantities of 10,000.
