One day after Intel cuts Celeron processor prices, AMD has moved to slash the cost of the Athlon XP.
AMD's mainstream desktop processor has seen price cuts of more than 30 per cent. The Athlon XP 3000+ drops 18 per cent (from $325 down to $265), and the 2800+ and 2700+ drop 20 and 23 per cent respectively, to $180 and $137.
The biggest price fall, however, is for the 2600+, which is cut by 32 per cent (from $151 to $103), but the 2500+ is not far behind. It is cut by 28 per cent (from $124 to $89). To complete the changes, the 2200+ and 2100+ are both priced at $74, falls of 9 and 6 per cent respectively.
The newly introduced Athlon XP 3200+ remains unchanged at $464. Similarly, the bottom of the range 2000+ is unchanged at $66.
All pricing is based on 1,000 unit quantities.
