Sub-£1000 LCD projector ready for June

Epson is to launch a £999 inc. VAT projector in June.

Digital projectors have been verging towards crossing the £1,000 barrier for a couple of months now, but it looks like Epson has finally cracked it with the EMP-S1.

No-one is about to call this cheap, but in terms of value for money, that £999 gets you SVGA resolution, a brightness of 1,200 ANSI lumens and a reasonably sprightly weight of 3.2kg.

Portability is also enhanced with a sliding handle, a remote control that slots into (and out of) the device itself and a carrying case.

It is aimed at acolytes of digital projection, with easy to set up features such as Keystone Correction, Short Throw distance lens (offering a 60in image at 1.8m) and monitor out options as well as a built-in speaker.

It's also quick off the mark, with a clear image within five seconds of pressing the power button and a mere 20 seconds cooling off period at power off, claims Epson.

The remote control will help you through presentations and allow you to select picture modes, so whether you're creating a home cinema, watching television or looking for exact colour representation, Epson reckjons the EMP-S1 will suit.

It will be available from June.
