Corel has released its Smart Graphics Studio software. It is a development environment for building SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) applications, supporting the combination of graphics with Web Services and XML data sources.
Smart Graphics is Corel's terms for applications that use SVG, an open standard for rich graphics and dynamic, interactive documents. Being XML-based, it is widely compatible with other Web standards.
'Many organizations are turning to XML and open standard Web services to ensure the easy exchange and longevity of their data and information,' said Ian LeGrow, VP of New Ventures at Corel. And he believes the new development studio will help spur the adoption of the SVG. 'Many enterprises have long recognized the power SVG offers for creating graphical solutions, but were challenged with the task of hand coding these applications - a very time consuming and expensive process. Corel Smart Graphics Studio enables developers to deliver these applications in a fraction of the time.'
The Smart Graphics Studio comprises for integrated elements. Corel Developer SG includes the Design Window visual development environment and a Template Builder for developers to prepare SVG documents with dynamic objects for data mappings. Corel Process Builder is for developers to combine data sources with graphics and application logic to create a run-time process. Corel Server SG is for the management and transformation of application data and images. Processes created in the Process Builder are executed on the Server. Finally, Corel SVG Viewer is a browser plug-in for developers to view SVG graphics as they develop the application interface.
The software runs on Windows 2000 and XP.
Costing $1,049, it is now available for download from Corel.com. A free trial is also available. The product will be available through Corel reseller partners from June, with boxed copies costing $1,199.
You can read more info about the Smart Graphics Studio on the Corel Web site.
