Due to a continuing worldwide shortage of Sony's DRU500AX (see issue 100, p105) DVD re-writer, not to mention any multiformat DVD re-writers, PC Pro has decided to replace it on the A List with the AOpen DVRW2412Pro (see issue 97, p100).
The AOpen drive won our recent DVD re-writers group test, and was our A-Listed DVD re-writer until the Sony arrived. Although the DVRW2412Pro doesn't write to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, only to DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW, it's quick and has the distinct advantage of being readily available.
The DVRW2412Pro has a street price of £170 (£200 inc VAT) and is available from online retailers such as dabs.com.
