Dell has launched new Inspiron and Latitude notebooks with Centrino technology.

Dell's Inspiron 500M starts at £1,113 including VAT and delivery, and offers the choice of either Intel's 802/11b wireless solution, or Dell's 802.11b/g TrueMobile wireless offering. The g version of 802.11b offers a bandwidth of 54Mbits/sec over the 2.4Ghz spectrum, so is backwards-compatible with 802.11b.

The unit is based around a Pentium-M chip at 1.3Ghz to 1.6Ghz and integrated graphics, with 256Mb of DDR SDRAM, a 40Gb disk, DVD CD/R-W combo optical drive and a 14.1in XGA display. There are two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, and Windows and Office XP on offer in Home and Professional versions.

The Latitude D500 starts at £996.41 including VAT and delivery, with the wireless options as listed above and for another £35, the option of an 802.11a/b/c solution from Dell.

In addition to similar Inspiron specs, the Latitude also offers a PCMCIA slot and is slightly lighter in terms of weight. It is based around a Pentium-M chip at 1.3Ghz.
