Sun has announced the release of its Sun ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection (formerly known as the Forte Compiler Collection). This is for the development of Solaris-based applications that can run on SPARC or x86 platforms.
The Compiler Collection covers the C, C++, and Fortran programming languages. It enables the editing, debugging, and tuning of applications.
The new release offers 'unprecedented performance and portability for the enterprise developer,' claims Rich Green, VP of Tools for Sun Microsystems.
As well as support for the C99 specification of C, pre-compiled headers (C and C++) and Thread Local Storage for C++, there is OpenMP, for developers targeting SPARC SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing) systems, and support of common GNU GCC and Microsoft extensions.
You can find more information at the Sun Web site.
