US chip designer Xicor Inc is demonstrating two new high speed analogue front ends (AFEs) for UXGA applications. The X98023 supports UXGA resolutions (1600 by 1200 pixels) at a refresh rate up to 85 Hz and the X98021 supports UXGA resolutions up to a refresh rate of 75 Hz.

Prototypes of the 230 MHz X98023 and the 205 MHz X98021 AFEs will be used to digitise video signals sent to 20-inch LCD TFT flat panel monitors. If brought to market, the new technology will increase the appeal of TFT screens for gamers and other graphics-intensive applications.

Both the X98023 and X98021 have three independent channels to capture the red, green and blue (RGB) or YUV video signals sent from personal computers, workstations or video set-top boxes to drive an LCD monitor or LCD projector. Each channel has an 8-bit, fully differential signal path to provide the low noise and high performance needed to support high pixel count monitors.

Xicor will be demonstrating its technology at the Display Search Conference in San Diego.
