NEC Computers has launched its new Tablet PC - the Versa T400 - in the UK.

Weighing 1kg and measuring 15mm in thickness, the machine also supports Voice over IP (VoIP). This enables mobile users to make calls and transfer voice data. The idea is for multiple users to be able to view and discuss the same documents in real-time.

Note that the Versa T400 is an independent Tablet - there is no keyboard attachment and it doesn't convert into a notebook. It is fully geared to pen input.

You can read previews of the T400 here:

Running on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, additional bundled software includes Norton Antivirus 2002, Acrobat Reader 5.0 and various plug-ins for the digital pen.

The tablet has a 10.4-in XGA TFT touch-sensitive screen and runs on a 933MHz Pentium III-M processor. It has three USB 2.0 ports and one CompactFlash card slot. NEC claims at least 3 hours of full usage from the 4-cell Li-Ion battery.

Pricing for the Versa T400 starts from £1,299 (excluding VAT).
